CoRAS streamlines Fire Risk Management in Social Housing sector

SIDCUP, Kent- 01 December 2011- CAMSoft Ltd., a Kent based property risk and compliance solutions provider today produced a short summary report of the results from a number of its clients in Fire Risk Assessments. The key points in the CAMSoft report are:

  • Many organisations are playing 'catch-up' on making their FRA Programmes current
  • There is a variety of approaches to assessing 'need' and this is driving different frequencies of assessment in different clients even with similar property portfolios
  • On average, some 50-60 risks are assessed in a typical FRA
  • Most FRAs resulted in over 10% of risks examined requiring some form of corrective action - average 7 issues per FRA
  • Some larger organisations in the social housing sector were carrying out some 1000 FRAs last year resulting in a huge 'bulge' in issues requiring corrective action

John Powell, CAMSoft Director said "The volume of FRAs carried out by many organisations last year, and the consequent high level of issues requiring attention will hopefully be a 'spike' in activity that over the next couple of years will level off. However, the way in which the FRA results are captured, recorded and processed in many organisations, together with the need for them to be monitoring and managing the implementation of corrective actions within an appropriate timescale, makes the traditional management tools in FRA - paper-based or excel - no longer an efficient or effective way of meeting the higher standards and level of assurance now required. Technology is now a required enabler and not a 'nice to have' options that it might have been perceived to be in the past."
